Ajinkya Rahane Joins BBC Sport’s Commentary Team for The Hundred 2026

London: Former India Test captain Ajinkya Rahane has joined BBC Sport’s commentary panel for the sixth edition of The Hundred, becoming the only Indian voice among the broadcaster’s line-up for the 2026 season.

Rahane is part of an experienced commentary team featuring former and current international cricketers, including Mark Wood, Katey Martin, Emilio Gay, Isa Guha, Alex Hartley, Michael Vaughan, Phil Tufnell, Sir Alastair Cook, Tymal Mills, Ebony Rainford-Brent, Dawid Malan, Amanda-Jade Wellington and Carlos Brathwaite.

The latest edition of The Hundred marks a new phase for the competition following fresh private investment and updated franchise identities. The tournament began on July 21, with defending men’s champions MI London opening their title defence with a victory over Sunrisers Leeds. In the women’s competition, reigning champions Sunrisers Leeds also started their campaign with a winning performance.

Sharing his thoughts on the new role, Rahane said he was delighted to spend another English summer around the game, this time behind the microphone instead of on the field. He described the experience of working with BBC Sport as enjoyable and looked forward to covering the remainder of the tournament while engaging with players, experts and fans.

Rahane brings extensive international experience to the commentary box. One of India’s most accomplished Test batters, he captained the national side to a memorable Test series victory in Australia during the 2020-21 tour after assuming leadership midway through the campaign.

Renowned for his calm approach and success in overseas conditions, Rahane has registered Test centuries in England, Australia and New Zealand, earning recognition as one of India’s most dependable performers away from home. His insights and first-hand knowledge of international cricket are expected to add depth to BBC Sport’s coverage as The Hundred enters a new era of growth and global appeal.
